Guardia forest remake1/2/2023 ![]() The translation is superior to the original in all meaningful aspects.Ĭlassic mode is essentially Chrono Trigger the way everyone remembers it, with the onscreen battle display and menus. Perhaps more dire is the rewording of the famous introductory lines, but only those who carry a lot of nostalgia for the game will find it detrimental. Certainly more mystical-sounding, but also a lot more obscure. The items "Revive" and "Remedy", on the other hand, suffer from having been strangely renamed as "Athenian Water" and "Panacea". For example, some attacks get new names, such as "Slash" and "Flame Toss" now being "Wind Slash" and "Flamethrower" respectively – both fairly negligible, but the renaming of Slash makes a certain boss fight a little easier to figure out. In terms of the lowered censorship and increased story development, the re-done translation is excellent, but there are aspects that die-hard fans of the game will probably go up in arms against. It's surprising how many little innuendos are present, and how much more sense certain things make. Perhaps the most noticeable is the entirely new translation, which is supposedly closer to the Japanese, and has none of the censorship that the North American audience was originally treated to. This re-release has also made some changes to the script. ![]() And now it's arrived on the DS, along with some extra bells and whistles in the form of a monster arena and two sets of bonus dungeons. In case you're unfamiliar with the title or just in the mood for a recap, Chrono Trigger is the remake of a landmark Super Nintendo title made by SquareSoft (before it merged with Enix to become Square Enix), and released in 1995 as one of the last great RPGs on the system. If that's not the mark of a compelling game, I'm not sure what is. After around 35 hours, I was ready to do it all over again in the name of seeing another ending out of the 14 available. ![]() I finished Chrono Trigger on March 11 of 2009, at 23:52.
